Introduction

The Name

The name "Perry" may have been a local surname in England derived from the Old English word "pirige" or "pyrige," meaning pear tree, denoting a "dweller by the pear-tree."

The family's roots

The earliest Perry ancestor that I have found so far is William Perry, born in 1750 in England.

Our Convicts

There are six confirmed convicts in the Perry branch of the family.

Mary Wade / John Herrick / John Mitton / Catherine Lahey / William Ray / Joseph Bull

Paths crossing?

Daisy Blunden married Stanley Edward Perry in 1905. Daisy's great great grandmother, Catherine Lahey, was a convict. She was tried at the Old Bailey in 1798.

At the time of her trial, Catherine was a lodger in a house in Drury Lane. Her landlord? A man named William Perry. Strange coincidence, indeed.
